They stage the biggest golf events in Europe, but what is the legacy for the classes that hold the Ryder Cup? Do they vanish from significance soon after being center of the golfing globe?
These are questions worth considering which Le Golf National plays host to the Open for the first time since the continents beating victory over the United States just over a year ago.
1 thing is for certain, this autumnal running of the national Open in continental Europe will not be as grand.
The tournament was shifted from a prime position in the schedule in the end of June and is now worth only #1.4m compared with the #5.6m purse that has been played for last year.
Make no mistake, there will be golf on display. The scramble qualify to Dubai finale for the Rush to keep trades is intensifying.
Along with the likes of Jose Maria Olazabal, Martin Kaymer, Thomas Bjorn and Jamie Donaldson add some stardust.
However, when Alex Noren won 15 months ago he beat a field that included defending champion Tommy Fleetwood giants Jon Rahm along with Sergio Garcia, US star Justin Thomas along with Ryder Cup stalwart Ian Poulter.
This week Bjorn returns to the spectacle of the tumultuous success of his team among the principal playing attractions rather than chief strategist for an extraordinary European victory.
This 171/2-101/2 win generated scenes and memories to inspire future generations. The course – set up perfectly to suit the home club – and also the place near Paris and roles played in making for golf.
However, it feels like Le Golf National could follow so many venues that staged house matches into relative obscurity for Europe. Courses which were principles in the circuit have disappeared from importance.
The Belfry hosted the Ryder Cup and whatever you think of this program, which will have its founders, that the first layout from the midlands turned into a significant part of the cloth of golfing history.
But a Tour event has not been staged by the Brabazon Course . Celtic Manor in Wales that was south disappeared four years after its Ryder Cup.
The K Club, which hosted the 2006 match in County Kildare, was the European Open between 1995 and 2007s house. As the Irish Open was maintained by it, it disappeared from the calendar apart from in 2016.
Gleneagles staged the 2018 European Team Championships and this years Solheim Cup but its own deal died before placing onto the 2014 Ryder Cup.
Only Valderrama (1997 Ryder Cup) in southern Spain has turned into a routine stop for the continents leading players in the wake of holding one of the biennial jousts between Europe and the United States.
Therefore the portents are not great at a time once the worth of this French Open has somewhat diminished, especially for Le Golf National.
Originally the French Federation signed a deal that could have obtained them to 2022.
This arose together with the loss of prime host Alstom, however, with conglomerate HNA a deal was gained by the European Tour for 2016. The five-year agreement values 25m euros appeared to secure the top-level standing of the event.
But that deal fell through leaving this tournament to warrant a place in the elite Rolex Series of the tour. So it sits within this October date, somewhat detached in the limelight it commanded.
The change of date is okay, the largest tournaments ought to have the very best dates, Pascal Grizot, president of Frances 2018 Ryder Cup committee, confessed to LEquipe this past year.
the European Union didnt do more to support the championship but the official questioned. Why did not they choose to aid the French Open and the federation because we were extremely loyal to the Ryder Cup? He asked.
The response comes down to money, like with many other former Ryder Cup venues. Theres cash generated to put these areas once of Maintaining golf event, the objective was satisfied, but it disappears.
It might prove a similar storyline to get Le Golf National. According to the following years schedule the French Open will return to summer, but there isnt any word on which course will stage the championship nor the magnitude of its own handbag.
Places resonate with golfing lovers K Club, The Belfry, Celtic Manor, Gleneagles and now potentially Le Golf National are not venues that have carved big areas in the folklore of the game.
They also give evidence that company reality leaves room for nurturing and maintaining that golf history.
